Our research sits between chemistry, physics and computer science, and we welcome people from any of these or a related subject. Some programming experience (e.g. Python) helps, but no prior knowledge of quantum computing is expected.

PhD students
Funded positions will be announced on the News page. PhDs at Liverpool are usually funded through Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) and Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs). Good fits for our research are:
- Digital and Automated Materials Chemistry CDT
- Materials Innovators of the Future (international doctoral training centre)
Please get in touch well before the application deadline.
MChem and master’s students
If you are a Liverpool MChem or master’s student interested in our group, email me for a chat about potential projects.
Postdocs and fellowships
Funded positions will be announced on the News page. I am also happy to support independent fellowship applications in quantum computing, quantum machine learning or computational chemistry.
- Early career fellowships that are regularly available
- Support for fellows in the Department of Chemistry
Please get in touch at least two months before the funder’s deadline.
Not sure if you’re in the right place?
I grew up in Sri Lanka and did my undergraduate degree at the University of Colombo before coming to the UK for my postgraduate studies. Finding my way around the UK academic system was not easy at first, and I benefited enormously from people who took the time to answer my questions and guide me. My (short) academic journey so far has taught me how much it matters to have people supporting you at every new step, and I’d like to pass that on.
Almost everyone in research feels like an impostor at some point; I certainly have. If you are an international student, the first in your family to pursue a research career, or wondering whether you’re good enough to join the group (you probably are), please get in touch. A short email will do just fine, and I will do my best to reply to everyone.
